DEAD REALM - the concept

In the second half of year 2004, I started submitting a lot of new material, mainly photography. I had spent some weeks in french Britany (in my grand parents house), and I had a lot of old stones' pictures to deal with.
The problem was often with skies : I don't have much good pictures with both a nice sky and a nice subject.

My castles / churches / ruins pictures often have a very bland sky. But I have plenty of pictures with a really good sky, where the sky is the main subject : sunsets, stormy skies.
That's when I started to correct my pictures by importing beautiful / interesting sky pictures into interesting subjects.
It started rather innocently, with this deviation [link] , where I used a nice blue sky with some clouds which came from another deviation of mine ([link]) to correct a pale grey sky.
With time and confidence, I began experiments with colors, sharpness, and imported skies of course ! I must say ~ firework came as some sort of inspiration at this point.
Then the first "Dead Realm" came, with strange colors, a white border, and a good start as a concept. ([link])

The Deviation
The original photo was taken at the Mont Saint Michel, in France. It's one of the most touristic places in the country (perhaps the most touristic of all...). It's the main entrance of the abbey, I had to erase some vividly coloured tourists in the black space of the gate !
